- Info: Blue Mountain Environmental Consulting prepared a wildfire mitigation plan for a 44-acre private property in Estes Park to satisfy requirements of the Larimer County Land Use Code. The Wildfire Mitigation Plan is based on best practices for wildfire mitigation from national and state organizations.
The property is located at 7,500 feet of elevation within a ponderosa pine forest. Implementing a comprehensive wildfire plan is inherently important to help prevent destruction of structures from wildfire. Blue Mountain provided a Defensible Space Map and Wildfire Risk Map and the framework for emergency preparedness for the safety of people and property. The mitigation plan included guidelines for structure mitigation, improving access, storage of combustible materials and maintenance of defensible space. The plan was based on best practices from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS), and the Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS).
To control noxious weeds and enhance wildlife habitat on the property, Blue Mountain provided a wildlife habitat plan that provided integrated management guidelines for noxious weed species and information about ungulate habitat quality and degree of current use by elk and deer. The plan identified habitat enhancements to benefit small mammals and insects, and provided fencing options to safely exclude elk and deer from a garden area.
